Cape Fear Regional Theatre: Founded in 1962 as Fayetteville Little Theatre, Cape Fear Regional Theatre has grown into a respected regional playhouse that features a mix of professional and amateur talent. This season's schedule includes "The Full Monty," Sept. 18-Oct. 4; "White Christmas," Oct. 20-Nov. 22; "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever," Dec. 8-20; "Peter Pan," Jan. 22-Feb. 14; "Les Miserables: School Edition," March 10-14; "A Member of the Wedding," March 26- April 11; "Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks," April 23- May 9. Gilbert Theater: The theater was founded in the basement of artistic director Lynn Pryer's home. Today, it stages plays above the Fascinate-U Children's Museum on Green Street. The Gilbert prefers edgier works, although it has made a holiday tradition of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol."

This season's plays are the musical "Whispers on the Wind," Sept. 11-Oct. 24; "A Christmas Carol," Nov. 27-Dec. 13; "Playballs," Feb. 11-28; "Lysistrata," April 15-May 2; and "Madame Melville," June 10-27. Call 678-7186 or go to www.gilberttheater.com.

Fayetteville State University: FSU has scheduled the following plays at Butler Theatre: "The Adding Machine," Oct. 8-10; "The Old Settler," Nov. 19-21; "Snow White," Feb. 18 and 19; and "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," April 15-17.

Fayetteville Technical Community College: The college's plays are accompanied by art exhibitions. Some also may include performances by the college choir: "The Music Man," Nov. 6-22; "The Importance of Being Earnest," Feb. 19-28; "Jack, Jill and the Giant," April 16-25; "Dating 101," June 18-27.

Methodist University: The university's season opens with "Ride! Ride! The John Wesley Musical," about the founder of the Methodist denomination. Nov. 19-22. Call 630-7157.

Temple Theatre: The downtown Sanford theater has presented plays since 1984 in a former vaudeville house.

This season's plays include "Bingo! The Musical," Sept. 3-20; "Stones in His Pockets," Oct. 15-Nov. 1; "A Christmas Carol," Nov. 27-Dec. 20; "Blood Done Sign My Name," Jan. 29-Feb. 7; "Marty's El Paso," March 11-28; and a Rodgers & Hammerstein musical, April 29-May 16.

Givens Performing Arts Center: The center is on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Its productions include a "Broadway and More" series, nostalgia concert series, youth productions and more. Next season's offerings include "Irving Berlin's I Love a Piano,'" Sept. 18; "Henry and Mudge," Sept. 28; "Avenue Q," Nov. 14: "Letters Home," Nov. 16; "The Adventures of Harold and the Purple Crayon," Nov. 19; "Camelot," Dec. 5; "Let's Get Down Tonight," Jan. 23; "The Wedding Singer," Jan. 28; "Are You My Mother?" Feb. 5; and "Davey Jones," March 26. Some dates are tentative and subject to change.

Harnett Regional Theatre: The Dunn theater has presented a wide variety of plays for the past 33 years. It stages productions at Stewart Theater, 114 N. Wilson Ave.

Sampson Community Theatre: The theater at 115 Fayetteville St. in Clinton has been providing a full slate of musicals, comedies and dramas for years.
