Art, they say, is a feast for the eyes. Visual admirers have plenty to feed their appetites with Fayetteville's art galleries and exhibits.

Fayetteville Museum of Art

Through Sept. 6: "Portals & Passages" features the viewpoints of contemporary artists examining passages and portals, which can be interpreted in numerous ways including architecturally and metaphysically.

Sept. 12-Nov. 1: "ARTQUILTStransitions" is a traveling exhibition of the Professional Art Quilters Alliance South. This is the seventh annual international juried exhibition.

Nov. 7-Jan. 10: "Bob Rector's Illustrators Competition." City Center Gallery & Books and the Museum of Art assemble a national competition of illustrative art in honor of illustrator Bob Rector's work.

Jan. 16-March 7: "Outsider: Minnie Evans." The exhibit focuses on the work of African-American folk artist Minnie Evans, known for her colorful drawings executed in crayon.

March 13-May 2: "Molten Glass" showcases hand-blown and fractured glasswork.

May 8-July 11: "Exposing Shadows: Stanley Greaves" features the work of painter and writer Stanley Greaves, who is one of the Caribbean's most distinguished artists.

The Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County

Fourth Fridays: The council celebrates the arts throughout downtown Fayetteville with free art exhibitions, musicians, dancers and more. The events are 7-9 p.m. downtown.

Sept. 25-27: The Arts Council leads the charge for the International Folk Festival with music, food, arts and crafts vendors and more.

Nov. 27: A Dickens Holiday downtown showcases arts and crafts vendors, carolers and a chance to engage with characters from Charles Dickens' classic, "A Christmas Carol."
